So, here’s what happened…
I scoured the malls, boutiques, and online stores but I just couldn’t find the perfect shoes to match my baby’s Little Mermaid themed dresses! I was about to give up and just buy those plain slippers with Ariel’s face on it, when… ding! An idea hit me! Why don’t I just make them myself and save some cha-ching?!
Here’s the plan:
- Buy any pair of decent shoes.
- Cover it with the excess fabric from my baby’s dress
- Style it with rhinestones
- Appreciate my masterpiece!
Easy right?
I bought these shoes from the local shoe store for P350 ($7). It looks great already but it doesn’t really go with the whole purple-and-green little mermaid motif.
I used the excess Green Sequin Mesh fabric from the dress that I had custom-made for Rigel. Fortunately, there was still enough to cover both shoes. Whew!
Also, I bought these dazzling rhinestones to style the shoes. A pound of these crystal gems cost $10.98 at Amazon.com (200 pieces of different colors, shapes, and sizes). What a steal!
I used a glue gun (hot glue) to attach the fabric all over the shoe. It took a lot of patience to carefully stick the fabric and to not put too much glue so that the shoes are still usable when I peel off the fabric (after the event). I also used the hot glue to stick the rhinestones to the fabric. It worked really well!
I’m so happy with the result! Here’s the final output:
After the party, I just carefully peeled off the rhinestones and the sequin mesh from the shoes. Up close, you will notice that there are leftover glue on some parts of the shoe.
But, from afar, you can barely see the glue.
I hope this inspires you on your next DIY shoes makeover project. Have fun!
